The Ladybug Gallery will host a reception to close the current exhibition “Our Creative Life” by artists in the Southwest Artists' Network (SWAN Detroit), which opened on May 2nd.

The reception will include world music by DJ Ellis and readings by local poets and Mariella Griffor, Chilean-born author, poet, activist and Publisher of Marick Press.

Participating artists in the exhibit include Diana Alva, DMC, Maurice Greenia, Matthew Hanna,  Mary Laredo Herbeck, Scott Hocking, Robert Q. Hyde, Nicole MacDonald, Nora Chapa-Mendoza, Teresa Petersen, Cheryl Phillips, Robert Sestok, Gilda Snowden, Ellen Stern and Vito Jesus Valdez.

This event is free and open to the public. During this exhibition, the Ladybug Gallery is open Fridays from 5pm to 7pm, Saturdays from 2-6pm, or 6-10pm on special event nights, and by appointment.  Groups and classes are welcome.  Street parking is available.

The 1,890 square foot Gallery is located at 1250 Hubbard St. at Porter, in the basement level of the historic Whitdell Building.  In 2007 Southwest Housing Solutions completed development of the 32-unit building into artist housing.  SHS and CAID, the Contemporary Art Institute of Detroit, market these units to low-to-moderate income artists.
